Salary: £22,380- £26,400 (Grade 5)
Hours: 37 per week
Location: Manby or Spalding
Contract: Permanent
Holidays: 25 days plus bank holidays
Pension: Local Government CARE Pension Scheme - 21.8% employer contribution rate

We are looking for a Senior Debt Recovery Officer to join our Revenues and Benefits service, dealing with the recovery and enforcement of Council Tax and Business Rates and also as part of our 'one team' ethos to support successful recovery outcomes for other debt types administered by our service.  As a Senior Debt Recovery Officer your key role will be to manage complex cases to conclusion, identifying the most appropriate course of enforcement based on the customer circumstances, and you will play a role in supporting and developing our Case Management Officers.  The Senior Debt Recovery Officer will represent the company and our client Councils at Magistrates Court, and will communicate with customers on a daily basis to resolve problems, ensure correct liability, and negotiate payments.  In an evolving work environment, you will need to have and maintain a good understanding of Council Tax and Business Rates legislation, guidance and local policy.

About you:

  • You have current knowledge and experience in the recovery and enforcement of Council Tax and / or Business Rates
  • You are exceptionally well-organised, ensuring that everything you do is accurate and error free, taking pride in your work
  • You will deal sensitively with customers who may be vulnerable and/or emotional, and situations that may be challenging  
  • You are very aware and caring of people's feelings and this allows you to quickly establish rapport and relationships with others
  • People like dealing with you because you make things easy for them to understand and you focus on and listen to what they say
  • You keep going no matter how difficult things get, and use setbacks and feedback as a learning opportunity for continuous improvement

If you have current experience of debt recovery and enforcement in a local authority Revenues environment we would like to hear from you. If you are selected for this role there will be a requirement to undertake a DBS check as part of pre-employment checks.
